Established in 2006, Angel City Derby Girls (ACDG) is Los Angeles’ world-renowned competitive Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby League. ACDG is a 501(c)3 Non Profit Organization, making your support both immensely appreciated by us, and tax-deductible for you.
We are a group of nearly 200 dedicated athletes and volunteers who have come together in a grass-roots effort to organize a democratic, DIY, member-driven and operated roller derby league for young ladies (age 7-17) and adult women of all ages that abides by the rules and regulations of the only international governing body of roller derby: the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).
By supporting us, you are supporting the growth of a sport supported by volunteers who believe in a strong future for women’s athletics.
What is Flat Track Roller Derby?
This ain’t your parents’ roller derby! Flat track roller derby is a fast-paced contact team sport that requires speed, strategy, and athleticism. Flat track roller derby was created in 2001 in Austin, TX, and has quickly grown to more than 1600 leagues worldwide in almost 40 countries. You will find Flat Track Roller Derby on any flat surface that is suitable for skating, such as skating rinks, sport courts, basketball courts, and even airplane hangars.
Who is Angel City Derby?
We are a group of female athletes of all ages (now in our 10th season) who have come together purely out of love of the sport and desire to encourage female driven athletics.
Some of the athletes have chosen names like Chica Go Lightning, Darby Dagger, Shunami Bomb, EllieMental and Jung Blood, to embrace the kitsch of the old-style of roller derby by paying homage to the legacy of skaters who often adopted pseudonyms or nicknames. Despite the witty names, we are serious about our athletic endeavors in the modern incarnation of the sport!
ACDG is entirely volunteer-run, skater-owned and operated, Non-Profit Organization. Your support of our all-ages events brings a new and exciting option to Culver City’s nightlife that is both sport and entertainment all rolled into one.
ACDG has 5 competitive adults teams, 8 levels of adult skaters, and growing juniors program or young ladies ages 7-17.
The Hollywood Scarlets represent ACDG internationally and play against teams for WFTDA rankings and compete annually for a chance to win roller derby’s highest honor: the Hydra Trophy. They play the highest level of roller derby there is!
The Rocket Queens represent ACDG internationally and play other teams in all over the globe. They travel with the Hollywood Scarlets and play as the travel B team.
The Shore Shots represent ACDG regionally and play other teams in California and the Western Region as the regional A team.
The Road Ragers compete locally, playing teams from all over Southern California.
The Rising Stars are our skaters that perform in expo bouts and are the future team skaters of the league.
Angel City Fit Club is our fitness initiative for skaters who want to improve their fitness and work on their roller derby skills outside of the competitive teams.
Angel City Junior Derby is our newest endeavor: ACJD is bringing the exciting sport of flat track roller derby to girls and young women 7 to 17 years old and providing opportunities for skaters of all skill levels to learn and play in a fun, safe, and supportive environment.
What is WFTDA?
We are one of the top 10 programs in the world, as ranked by the global governing body of the sport, the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).
The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association is the international governing body for the sport of women’s flat track roller derby, so you could say that it’s like the NBA of derby. The WFTDA sets standards for rules, divisions, rankings, safety, and determines guidelines for the national and international competitions of member leagues. There are currently over 300 WFTDA member leagues (in 21 countries worldwide) competing for the highest honor: invitations to WFTDA Playoffs and Championships for a shot at the Hydra Trophy. WFTDA’s Mission is to promote and foster the sport of women’s flat track roller derby by facilitating the development of athletic ability, sportswomanship, and goodwill among member leagues.
Thank you for joining us in supporting the sport we believe in!
