Angel City Derby will host a contest on the flat track between their own all-star team The Hollywood Scarlets, and the all-stars from the local banked track roller derby league, The LA Derby Dolls Ri-ettes. The LA all-star bout is the main event of a double header on Saturday, August 17 at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Culver City.
The Hollywood Scarlets are finishing their epic 2013 season, heading into the WFTDA playoffs ranked #5 in the world. The LA Ri-ettes are the #1 banked track league and are entering this game fresh off their first place win at Battle on the Bank. Both teams are known for their athleticism and fierce training schedules. They have even been known to swap players between them. Angel City’s Mickispeedia, Laci Knight, Cris Dobbins and Krissy Krash are former Ri-ettes while Cherrylicious was a Scarlet before she became a Ri-ette.
While the Ri-ettes are primarily a banked track team, they have proven repeatedly that they are no slouches on the flat track. The team took first place at the Battle for the Coast flat track tournament in 2012 and 2013. Look out for veteran flat track skaters RegulateHer and Darla Daredevil making strong plays for the Ri-ettes.
Before the all-stars take the track, Angel City Derby’s Road Ragers will face off against the Peninsula Rollergirls from northern California.
In the Battle for LA, who will reign supreme? No matter who wins, this one’s going to the home team. While you’re cheering on the best skaters in LA, you can enjoy a locally-made beer from Angel City Derby’s newest sponsor, Angel City Brewery.
