Now that Halloween is over, let’s give thanks for our November Angel of the Month, Amy Grindhouse! Amy came to Angel City Derby in August of 2018 and chose her name as a tribute to Amy Winehouse. With an eager attitude for commitment and training, she secured her spot with the Rising Stars by March of 2019 and became one of their captains.
After suffering an injury that would keep her off skates for the rest of the season, Amy Grindhouse kept on grinding. She never stopped showing up to practice, and has been determined to support her teammates and league in any way possible. Amy helps bench coach, works as a non-skating official, and performs duties on several ACD committees. She is known by her league mates as super friendly, easy to talk to, and always dependable.
Outside of roller derby, Amy Grindhouse is the mom of a beautiful 8 year old daughter that goes everywhere with her. Amy is definitely a role model by being extremely active in her community. She spends time championing and fundraising for battered and homeless women with organizations such as Aunt F.L.O., a group that provides hygiene products to different women’s shelters each month.
In her short time here, Amy Grindhouse has proved to Angel City Derby that she is indispensable. We are grateful that she chose us as her home league, and are better for having her here! Keep an eye out for this hard-charger next season as she is sure to do great things!
