Angel of the Month, May – Mary Achi!

Chi Chi looks over her shoulder as the jammer approachesWhen we think of derby players and their skating prowess, we often forget the professions they take on off the track. Our May Angel of the month is Mary Achi, better known as Chi Chi, who is a Forensic Scientist and Cat Lady.

Chi Chi is the 2019 Captain of the Shore Shots, and began her career with Angel City Derby as a transfer skater from The Los Angeles Derby Dolls to the Angel City Road Ragers in November of 2014. Chi Chi is a true teammate and a leader on and off the track by taking on leadership roles such as track lead. She is also every jammer’s best friend when she provides them with textbook offense.

We aren’t sure where Chi Chi gets her kind spirit from after working all day and sometimes long nights. Where ever she gets it from, we sure are glad she’s taken on huge roles within our league. She is truly a force behind the scenes making sure things run smoothly for the league. Chi Chi is an administrator for our internal communication system, which has been one of the hardest programs to learn, and Chi Chi has become a wiz at it, answering everyone’s questions within minutes. Among many positions Chi Chi holds within the league, she is also a coach for the Rising Stars and assists with putting on showcase bouts for these newer players. Chi Chi also helps take care of our home away from home, the ACD Warehouse, assisting in it’s cleanliness and maintenance. And last but not least, she maintains the organization of our league membership files. Chi Chi holds off the jammer.

“Phew, where does Chi Chi get all this energy from?!!”

Thank you, Chi Chi, for all you do! From a role model teammate to a stellar league-mate, you do it all! We are truly appreciative of the work you do for the league, and don’t know how you wear so many hats! But we sure are glad you call Angel City home!
Be sure to get tickets to our next game on May 11 and catch Mary Achi on the track with our Shore Shots!
