There’s an old saying that if you love something, let it go, and if it comes back to you, it’s yours. In 2012, we bid farewell to a skater who made a big impact on our league in the year and a half that she was part of it, and in 2016, she returned to us with a fire like we’ve never seen.
February’s Angel of the Month is Brawl Stanley, #78. Brawl originally joined ACDG on 03/01/2011 and was with us through September 2012. She then moved to New York, where she skated with Suburbia Roller Derby (where she first began playing roller derby before coming to ACDG). Brawl is a natural born leader, serving as a leader at Suburbia and also skating with the Scarlets during her first stint with ACDG.
Eventually, life brought her back to the Best Coast and she rejoined ACDG in August 2016. The 2017 season is just beginning and Brawl is already making a huge impact on the league. Ever-positive and nurturing, she took over as head coach for the Rising Stars, and often offers to fill in as a trainer at all levels as needed. Brawl also serves the league and the greater derby community as a WFTDA rep. She is very active in the WFTDA community, currently serving on the compliance panel.
ACDG’s battle cry is POP POP, which means “Power of Pegasus/Power of Positivity.” Positive doesn’t even begin to describe this athlete, she is hardworking and always has a great attitude to boot. She takes her personal training very seriously and fits right in with the ACDG fitness culture. We are so happy to have Brawl (and her lovable pup Layla) injected back into our culture! Watch out for her this season!
