Our Angel of the Month for July 2016 is the amazing and Angel City Junior Derby’s own superhero, Ka’atina Suiaunoa (Tina). Tina officially joined ACDG May 2015 as the head of our Juniors Committee.
Some of Tina’s superpowers include being extremely organized and easy to communicate with, which are certainly strengths for handling ACJD. These superpowers were a tremendous asset with the transition of juniors into our league last year as she was and continues to be liaison between ACDG Leadership and the parents of our junior skaters. She has been very supportive and collaborative in bridging between ACJD and all of ACDG leadership.
Tina also works in conjunction with Ima Blowbya, the head of our Gaming Committee assuring all ACJD teams play the most competitive juniors games available! All the competitive play scheduled this season has paid off as ACJD’s Charter team, The A-Listers, qualified to compete in JRDA’s Championship tournament. This is the highest level of roller derby play for all skaters under 18 years old. Not only that, all 7 of ACJD’s A-Listers who tried out qualified to skate roller derby and represent our country in the Junior Olympics.
Tina travels to almost all the Juniors’ games and practices as well as the games of ACDG’s WFTDA ranked team, the Hollywood Scarlets. Tina is the best kind of superhero there is, a mom who supports her daughter, Lo Betancourt, who aged out of ACJD and is a fierce blocker on the Hollywood Scarlets!
If you know any skaters under 18 years old that would love to play roller derby, please feel free to contact Tina at Juniors@angelcityderbygirls.com. Also be sure to catch Tina cheering on ACJD’s A-Listers as they compete in Junior Championship tournament July 9th through July 13th in Nebraska.
